Operating Statement

These are the basic costs to run this website. They are cheap when compared to a commercial site like Sears, etc. While not commercial, the GCNews is a large site and does not qualify for those so-called "free" web hosting offers. Nothing is free. The GCNews generates a massive amount of web traffic each day with up to one million "hits" per month, nearly 500-thousand unique visitors per day.

Hosting fees, ISP fees, electricity, phone, computer maintenance, it all adds up to roughly $412.00 monthly, and that doesn't include the labor it takes to bring you each weekday the newsbrief report alone. While we don't have to pay for labor, there are hours of it expended. With your donations, you are telling us you appreciate what we do and that takes the bill-paying burden off us.

While you are seeing ads, only one is a direct buy. The others are explained below and do generate some sales, but not enough so that we can avoid having to ask for your help.

THE ADS...

The large and half-banner ads at the top and/or bottom of most pages are pay per click. We get a referral fee of between $.10 and $.17 each time a reader visits the merchant. No purchase is necessary. Just looking generates a few pennies but repeated clicking is discouraged and monitored by the banner ad company.

Other ads you see are referral type. When you buy books, movies, etc., from Amazon, etc., we get a 5-10 percent commission based on your total purchase. Present income from these ads is slim. Average referral per quarter from Amazon can be as high as $50.
