Commentary by Brent Kellogg

September 25, 2009

I understand you're not supposed to think when watching a badly written soap opera, but did you think it weird that Nikki Newman said she wrote letters home telling everyone she was okay? And yet when she found out her main man had been shot she had no problem picking up the phone and calling home just at the very moment son Nick Newman was watching his daddy being worked on at the God Have Mercy Medical Center? Whatever happened to the rule about no cell phone use at GHM?

Will anyone ever ask Paul Williams who sent him the text message clue leading him to a Rocky Mountain spa retreat where he found the old cow? Was there any doubt that when Nikki opened her door she'd be able to tell from the look on Paul's face that something was wrong? She might have at least asked if he was still pissed at her for leaving him at the alter.

Shouldn't there be a law that bitchy wives are not allowed in the room with their husbands within minutes of said husband having been operated on for gunshot wounds? The way Ashley was bitching and moaning and blaming Victor for all the wrongs in the world you knew he was gonna have a heart attack. There was before that Ashley asking Adam how a man like Victor does the evil things he does when she knows damn well how Victor is. Her act, that she's shocked to learn he was behind the reincarnation of Patty Williams wasn't believable. Nor was the predicable hacking that Colleen Carlton doesn't get to live her life because of what Victor did. If Victor hadn't caused Colleen to be kidnapped, fall out of a canoe into a calm pond and nearly drown, someone else would have. Why isn't Jack Abbott being blamed for not continuing CPR which led to Colleen being declared officially brain dead? What is the big surprise at all given Colleen's been brain dead since birth? For all her spewing, Ashley concluded that Victor does what he does because he's always been that way.

That said, why couldn't she leave well enough alone? Whatever happened to the concern that excess stress will hurt her unborn baby? Why go back to tell Victor that she fears he'll hurt the baby? Why the incessant whining only to blame herself when Victor goes into cardiac arrest?
