Try, try as you might. You just can't feel sorry for the rich people in Genoa City. First there's Billy Abbott in need of some spending money to buy a fashion rag he saw in a store window, then he asks brother Jack for access to his trust fund, is rejected and not once is asked what on earth he did with all the money he surely made when running the family business in Hong Kong. In town for a year or so, not counting the few days spent at the family business here, Billy hasn't worked and yet was able to purchase and remodel a rundown trailer from old man Murphy Chancellor, who found fame and fortune when he just happened to be in the right place at the right time and after helping old lady Katherine Chancellor find her mind, married and moved into the Chancellor Mausoleum where today Murphy acts as a valet to earn his keep.

With an infant baby to raise, Billy shirked that duty long ago when he took up with Darfur reject Mac Browning who so happens to be Katherine's granddaughter and therefore outside of owning a bar doesn't work much either. She did too run her mother out of town on a rail, but everyone conveniently forgets that minor detail as Jack hacks that money is tight these days and can't fathom why Billy needs so much. And when Jack learns it's to buy Useless Style Magazine he sputters that former, or current depending on a particular point of view, owner and ex wife Phyllis would never give up her "baby". Even if she would, as why else would Billy be asking for money, Jack plays the inexperienced card. While Billy claims to know what readers his age want in a fashion rag, Jack says he doesn't know squat about the publishing business which never stopped Jack, or his partners, from establishing USM in the first place. Of particular note, Jack's other ex, Sharon Collins Newman Abbott Collins barely knew how to write her own name but that didn't stop her, nor piano teeth Nick Newman whose claim to fame is that he doesn't need to know how to do anything so long as there's daddy's money to fall back on.

Speaking of money and who has it, where did Ashley Newman get hers? Did she scrimp and save before she went crazy? Did hubby Brad Carlton leave her a bundle of bucks? Would this explain why she agreed to loan brother Billy the money he needs? Did you hear Ashley say that Billy is the "best brother" a girl could ask for? Doesn't she know, hell, doesn't he know, biologically she ain't his sister. Could that explain why Billy lied to her face when he said he'd been turned down by every bank in town? Really? He had time to hit every bank, apply for a loan, and be rejected?
