With the talk again that we'll soon be seeing "on the edge of your seat drama", and many of us asking, "how many times have we heard this before?", I was wondering if this week that shouldn't be this column's theme.

For example, was Chloe Mitchell and Cane Ashby running out of gas supposed to be dramatic? As they waited to flag down a car for a ride to the nearest gas station, did strange things happen to them? Did Chloe find herself climbing a telephone pole hoping to find a way to plug her cellphone in so she could call for help? Did a police officer come to their aid and then try to kill them? That, would have been drama. This, is what we got.

One of the first to leave the Abbott "mansion" - where a 4th of July party had been thrown for top advertisers of what Jack Abbott pretty much considers his magazine - Cane was about to bailout when Chloe feigned a sprained ankle and needed Cane to drive her home. Instead of suggesting she call a taxi, Cane not only agreed to give Chloe a lift, he drove her car which promptly ran out of gas.

As the story goes, the gas gauge on Chloe's car is faulty, and yet as most men would do getting into a strange vehicle, Cane apparently didn't check the gauge. Despite Chloe's recent history of trapping him in compromising situations, Cane took her word that there was plenty of gas. A real man would have said "we're taking my car", but not Cane.

Keeping in mind that when Cane left the party other guests were still arriving, what route did he take back to the city? Is there a back road he would have taken that it turned out left him stranded three miles from the nearest gas station? Considering that earlier Chloe was concerned about the high cost of gasoline, does that explain why she didn't fill her tank? If the gauge was broken, how did she know there was enough gas to get her to the mansion? Was it dumb luck that the gas ran out once she had Cane trapped?

Admittedly, I've been known to forget little details like this, but isn't Chloe a famous fashion model mentor? Isn't she paid big bucks to work at Jabot Cosmetics? Wouldn't she then be driving around in a fancy new car? My 2002 Ford Ranger is old, but the gas gauge has never not worked, and if it had broke, poor boy that I am, the truck would have gone straight away to a mechanic. Like you probably do, I never drive long distances without my cellphone and auto club card. Like Cane, whose cellphone is always ringing, what was wrong with Chloe's phone today of all days? Or should we say night.

Yes, it was so late that the nearest gas station was closed by the time Cane reached it on foot. He had to wait until it opened and then walk the three miles back to the stranded car. If you're a regular walker, I bet you would have paid good money to see fat bellied Cane walked two miles let alone six. Cane never walks anywhere, except maybe up the Athletic Supporter stairs when he's on the way to pork Lily Winters.

Never mind that Genoa City is supposed to be a city that doesn't sleep, where restaurants and businesses are open around the clock, why was there no other cars on the highway? Did all those guests at the mansion stay overnight too? And where exactly is the Abbott mansion? When Wally Wallingford can walk to it with ease, are you seeing Cane and Chloe stranded on a deserted highway? Did they take the same shortcut Skye Lockhart took from Chicago to New York which explains how she wound up today in Genoa City?
