Let Heather Stevens, reinstated at her old job less
than a week ago, is already a spokesgeek for the
District Attorney's office. She will, as Jack and
Sharon Abbott know to watch on a computer at just
that moment, give a press conference on the death of
Mr. Kim Chee and David Chow giving credit to her PI
father and his hunkmonkey sidekick without
mentioning that J.T. Hellstrom is head of security
at Newman Enterprises which apparently gives J.T.
full access to crime scenes and what not. Let
Heather then run to the Ponderosa to ask Adam if he
saw the press conference and for him to say it was
impressive, but please don't tell anyone that Victor
is missing and then for Heather to say she'll alert
the cops.
Let it be too that one of Paul's many contacts
informs him that the location of Victor's cell phone
has been triangulated and that it just happens to be
in the vicinity of the cemetery where Sabrina is
buried. Arriving there moments later, Paul and J.T.
call Victor's phone. Of all the dumb luck, they
happen to be standing so close to the phone they can
hear it ring. Digging like dogs for a bone, they
find the phone, Victor's meds and wallet.
Having earlier said that Victor didn't make any ATM
withdrawals, and reaffirming that an illegal search
of Victor's credit card transactions showed no new
activity, Paul and J.T. know too that before Victor
vanished he cleaned out his safe and left it open.
This fact though did not suggest robbery or
kidnapping because, well, there's been no ransom
note!
Zipping to the Newman Outhouse, Paul, with his
aluminum briefcase, brings Nikki up to speed and
you've got to wonder why he needed to take the case
with him inside except that by now you've become
distracted by Nikki's whine that she keeps reliving
the conversations she had with David, and yet when
Jack arrives to ask if she'll help him write a story
about David for the next issue of Useless Style, she
asked how dare he ask that she relive the worst year
of her life.
Only one thing could top that, and it wasn't Nick
Newman fusing that he should be doing more to find
Victor, but sitting around on his ass dreaming up a
scheme to buy Jack out using money provided by Brad
Carlton! Nick said it was a foolproof deal he
planned on putting in writing so that Brad couldn't
stab him in the back. But a fool like Nick should
have known, as his strange wife would say later but
not before getting an answer from Brad, that legal
contracts mean nothing to Brad. As it turned out,
Brad had no interest in throwing good money after
bad, but that didn't stop Nick from saying he was
going to kick that bastard Jack's ass for asking his
mother to help write another article that Nick
hadn't, and wouldn't, approve.
As usual, when it came to actually kicking Jack's
ass, Nick wasn't man enough. He didn't even try. He
wimped out. All Jack had to do was poke Nick in the
stomach and sawdust would have come pouring out. For
Jack, Nick is so inconsequential that if an atomic
bomb were to be dropped on Genoa City, only Victor
and the cockroaches would survive. Even for a
cockroach like Nick, it must be humiliating not to
be mentioned by name.
