Flashback - January 2002

Week of 01.28.02

Nick and Sharon Newman made a big scene in front of Diego Guittierez and other coffeehouse customers. Manager Cody Dixon told Diego that Sharon was having a strange reaction to his hiring so Diego asked Sharon if she had become embarrassed after crying on his shoulder and she said no. Nick returned from the office to tell Diego that after checking his resume he realized that he's known the Guittierez family for a number of years and was pleased to have Diego working as a waiter.

Phyllis Abbott told Ashley Carlton she wanted to keep trying to have a baby, but that Jack was against it and could Ashley convince him otherwise? Ashley said she couldn't because Jack would blame her for the rest of his life if Phyllis died.

Sperm lab tech Justin Johns was opposed to Diane Jenkins' suggestion the lab do a DNA test on all the sperm samples until where Victor Newman's sperm was stored could be determined. Diane threatened to hound the lab until it went bankrupt if it refused and asked Michael Baldwin to take legal action against the lab. Baldwin reminded Diane that she committed illegal acts and could go to jail and to forget about a law suit. Diane said fine - she'd take her case to the court of public opinion and use her baby in the process.

Diane took her baby to Jack's office to see if he could help her find out what Nikki Newman was up to. Jack would only say that Nikki wasn't trying to get her baby. Feeling safe, Diane said she would return to Italy but turned around and told Baldwin that Nikki was trying to take her baby. Baldwin told her to get out of town. Diane said she would - that night. Before leaving, however, Diane ran into Phyllis who warned her to stay away from Jack or live to regret it.

Nikki Newman took the opportunity to tell Jack that he is the father of Diane's baby. It was Jack's sperm in Victor's storage container at the inept Robertson Sperm Lab. Jack had made a "deposit" after his cancer scare two years ago. The news made Jack realize there was something about holding Diane's baby earlier. "I held him. When I looked into his eyes I had this amazing feeling, like, there was a connection. My heart was beating out of my chest," he said.

J.T. Hellstrom told Brittany Hodges that Rianna Miner had broken up with him and not the other way around. "You're a free man," Brittany quipped. Later, Rianna told Brittany she wanted J.T. back and was told to forget it because J.T. was hot for Mac Browning. Rianna confronted Mac who said she didn't have a clue.

At the time it was so funny. Rianna went to see her school counselor and was told she had enough credits to graduate without finishing the semester. Accordingly, she was leaving town, taking a trip abroad or maybe going to a workshop before it was off to college.

Sean Bridges flipped when he found movers hauling stuff out of his apartment. Jill Abbott was having it moved to the Chancellor mausoleum. Before leaving his pad, Jill and Sean had sex on the floor.

At the mausoleum, Katherine Sterling was greeting Richard McCarrell, a realtor. The old woman's plan was to buy a home for Jill so that she'd moved out. Looking at the specs of one home, Katherine's main concern was whether it was hooked up for DSL! Not only that, the home was totally wired including a satellite dish. Moments later, Jill returned with Sean and devastated Katherine when she announced he would be moving in. "This is some way to honor Phillip Chancellor's memory," Katherine sniped as Jill and Sean went upstairs to have more sex.

Victoria Newman was sick, but not so sick she wanted Dr. Winters checking her out. Neil Winters, however, disagreed and in a flash Olivia was checking her out. 102.5 was Victoria's temperature. She was told not to go to Kenya in her condition so a breath mints popping Neil took her place on the plane which blew away Malcolm Winters and Alex Perez. They tried to get off, but the flight attendant told them no. When the coast was clear, Neil began nipping from a flask.

Week of 01.21.02

Another week and another round of Nick and Sharon Newman squabbling over whether he should accept blame for the death of their baby and how to tell the kids why Nick isn't living at home and Cassie Newman pretending to be sick, but getting better whenever she sees Nick at home. Oddly, Cassie thought Nick was staying at a hotel in Milwaukee and had not seen him at the main house where he said he was staying, but who kept saying he was sleeping at the office when Sharon thought he was staying with his father. As it turned out, Nick had moved into the main house after leaving his daddy a note that he was moving out of the penthouse so that he could be closer to his kids.

The adults tried to tell Cassie what was happening by skimming over the details, but Cassie wanted to know everything because she could help save the marriage and thought it was good daddy and mommy were still talking. But when an argument broke out, Cassie blasted Sharon for being mean to daddy.

Victor Newman took the opportunity to tell the woeful tale of his son's marriage troubles to Ashley Carlton. She thought things must be hard for Sharon since she had "bonded with her baby" and Victor added that if the marriage were to fail Matt Clark would have won and the kids would be the ones to suffer most. This statement made Ashley realize, "We have to protect our children no matter what." And when Ashley told Victor about Colleen Carlton taking drugs, Victor said, "I'd like to get my hands on the folks that push drugs to kids."

Old man Yawn Abbott took Colleen Carlton to see the headmaster at Walnut Grove Academy and then turned over the reins to Uncle Billy Abbott. Colleen feared the other kids would talk about her and that certainly everyone worldwide knew she had been expelled from the school in New York.

In order for Colleen to join Billy and his pals at an after school yearbook meeting, Billy had to call old man Yawn who had to ask Brad who had to ask Billy if he promised to key an eye on Colleen. Giving Colleen the good news, Billy noticed one of the local drug dealers. "His name is Troy. He's into drugs big time. Stay away from him," he ordered opening the door for Colleen to ask Troy later if she could score some dope.

When Troy learned that Colleen was related to Abbott he ran off and was seen by Mac Browning who warned Colleen to stay away from the drug dealers. If Troy became a problem all Colleen had to do was say the word and Mac would take care of it. But when Mac split, Colleen hit on Troy again. "So you smoke weed?" she asked making sure to tell him how she was expelled from her last school for smoking dope. She even gave Troy the name and address of the school (Cabot on 87th in NYC) as if doing so would make him trust her. "Now, will you help me score?" she asked adding how she needed something, "to mellow me out."

Mac Browning wanted Brittany Hodges to tell how long she had known J.T. Hellstrom had planned to dump Rianna Miner because she knew all along that J.T. really cared for Brittany. Another teen, dubbed 'Danny Girl' was also interested in J.T. and was very excited when J.T. kicked Rianna to the curb.

When Billy Abbott found out, he blasted J.T. who in turn said Billy was jealous because Mac refused to put out and he hadn't had any since breaking up with Brittany.

Working at the coffee shop as a waiter, Diego Guittierez poked his nose into Billy's business. It didn't take him long to figure out that Billy and Mac weren't having sex and Billy confirmed he didn't think the situation would change.

When Mary Williams found out her son had been seeing Lauren Fenmore she had to know, "is it serious?" Detective Clueless knew right away that his big-mouthed secretary had been gossiping again and would only say that Lauren had been, "keeping me sane."

As for dizzy Izzy Brana and Michael Baldwin, Clueless said Izzy doesn't know what she getting to "with that snake" and that he hates Baldwin even more. "I feel like going over to his office and strangling the life out of him."

Meantime, Lauren was telling Izzy again that if she didn't tell Clueless that he sired her baby - she would. Izzy panicked, summoned Baldwin and told him she was leaving for New Orleans to start a new life.

Clueless and Lauren raced to Izzy's pad after Lauren blew the whistle on her only to discover that Izzy had split. Just as they were about to leave Izzy returned. "What are you two doing here?" Izzy demanded, picked up some papers she had forgotten and started to leave again. Lauren wanted her to tell Clueless the truth, but she refused. It was at the moment Clueless got a clue. Izzy's baby is his?

With their wedding just two weeks away, Malcolm Winters wanted Alex Perez to postpone it and go with him to Kenya. Alex agreed to put the wedding off until March.

Neil Winters slobbered all over Victoria Newman after she ratted him out for drinking. "You're an officer of the company. You had to do it," he kowtowed noting that he was getting professional help with his drinking problem.

Amanda Hunnicutt was trying to earn her keep at the homeless shelter by helping Larry 'Wartman' Warton file papers and happily announced, "I'm going to be here permanently" after receiving permission from her daughter to stay in Genoa City. The Wartman urged Amanda to get a job and a place of her own to live and even offered to get her a job at Jabot Cosmetics.

As luck would have, the shelter manager had something better for Amanda. A job as a lunchroom attendant at Walnut Grove Academy! Before applying, Amanda had to get her daughter's permission. She raced to the coffee shop knowing Mac would be there and promised not to apply "if it would embarrass you." Mac gave her blessing.

As a favor to Phyllis Abbott, Ashley Carlton dropped by the Genoa City Hotel to tell Diane Jenkins that if she were in town to cause trouble, "I'm ready to take the gloves off" and ordered Diane to stay away from her family. Diane trotted off to the sperm lab and demanded to know the name of the father of her baby. A clerk told her that he didn't know and wouldn't tell if he did, but Diane was not discouraged.

Week of 01.14.02

It was okay for Nikki Newman to barge into Diane Jenkins' Italy office, but she didn't like it when Diane blew into Genoa City and did the same thing. "You're testing my patience," she snorted at Diane who said she knew Nikki wasn't in Italy on business and demanded to know why she was asking so many questions about her son after an entire year had passed. Nikki refused to say anything more.

Later at the RoadKill Cafe, Michael Baldwin warned Diane that Phyllis Abbott would take her down if she messes with Jack Abbott. Diane said she all she wanted was to find out who the father of her baby is and worried that Nikki may be trying to take her son away.

Victoria Newman blew a gasket and the whistle when a drunken Neil Winters wrecked a big business deal. It was the second he had blown in as many days. Victoria also told Olivia Winters during a meeting at the RoadKill and who should be eavesdropping? Gina Roma! "Neil's been stopping by here for a drink or two during the day," she ratted.

Neil was summoned to Victor Newman's office and told by the great man to get professional help and if he didn't he could kiss his job good-bye.

At the photo studio, Malcolm Winters was setting up a bed with satin sheets for a lingerie shoot when Alex Perez popped in. Spotting the bed, she pulled him down and the two had sex. They didn't change the sheets afterwards, but did set a wedding date for the second week in February.

Just back in town, Brock Reynolds surmised before leaving again that having Amanda Hunnicutt around would be a good thing for Mac Browning. The little teen terrorist wanted to see her father off at the airport, but remembered she was scheduled to tutor at the homeless shelter.

"Please don't disappoint your students," Brock quipped assuring Mac it was okay to say good-bye at some place other than the airport.

Finding her mother at the shelter, Mac granted Amanda a stay of execution. She could stay in Genoa City. With a place to stay, Amanda now needed a job so she turned to the shelter manager. Her experience cleaning motel rooms and sewing should qualify for something. The manager looked at the want-ads. Lookie here! They need a seamstress at a local boutique with an 800 number. (1-800-555-0122). Amanda made the call, but when a man answered she hung up and said the line was busy. The man who answered was seen copying the number from Caller ID (414-555-0191) and calling the operator to ask where the area code was.

Brad Carlton and old man Yawn Abbott continued arguing about Colleen Carlton. Since his daughter had put him in charge of the troubled kid, Yawn was calling the shots.

At the local fertility clinic, Dr. Graziano was trying to find a way to divulge medical information to Jack Abbott about his wife. "It's a matter of confidentiality, but you should ask your wife how she feels."

Phyllis Abbott barged in and gave the doctor hell for attempting to violate doctor-patient confidentiality. "Who made you God?" she hissed and later told Jack that the doctor had reduced the hormone dosage, but that it wouldn't change anything. "By this time next week I'll be pregnant with our child," she beamed and then fainted.

Phyllis was admitted to the C4D and told "fluid is collecting in her uterus" by Dr. Graziano who admitted it was a rare occurrence, but does happen. The reality was that fluid was collecting in the abdominal cavity and putting pressure on other organs. However, a tap could get the problem under control. In addition, one ovary was reportedly larger than the other. But later, Dr. Reese Walker reported that the procedure couldn't be completed so they were going to do more blood tests! Additionally, they were looking at liver and kidney damage.

A freaked out Jack said, "I had no idea she could die," and then told Phyllis, "We'll get past this." Later, it was discovered that Phyllis wasn't pregnant and the next day she was pronounced fit as a fiddle.

Sean Bridges went to Larry Warton of all people for advice on women. He wanted to spend the rest of his life with Jill Abbott, but oops, there she was gawking at them. Jill dismissed Warton before asking Bridges what he was doing talking to a lowly janitor. Jill also offered Sean a chance to move in with her and thinking only about how much sex he would get, Sean agreed.

Dizzy Izzy Brana went to Baldwin's office to tell him she needed help picking out a baby car seat and so off they went to get one later stopping at the RoadKill where Izzy praised Baldwin for having everyone at the store jumping. For his hard work, Izzy would cook Baldwin a meal.

Detective Paul 'Clueless' Williams was at Lauren Fenmore's hotel room with flowers and wine and wondering if she had seen Izzy. "I told you I didn't want to see you until you talked to her," Lauren scolded.

"She's pregnant with Baldwin's child," Clueless whined begging Lauren to cheer him up. Lauren snapped her fingers and in rolled waiters with room service. After dining, they went dancing at the RoadKill where Clueless saw Izzy with Baldwin and Izzy saw Clueless with Lauren. Later, Lauren asked Clueless if it bothered him to see Izzy with Baldwin and Baldwin asked Izzy if it bothered her to see Clueless with Lauren.

On the teen scene: Rianna Minor was upset that J.T. Hellstrom didn't want to go to a yearbook meeting with her. She whined to Mac and was asked, "Are you two having sex?" Rianna said yes; it was the way she wanted it. Mac told J.T. to be nice to Rianna because she had been through so much and not to hurt her again.

Raul Guittierez was surprised to learn his brother hadn't returned to Texas after all. "I got as far as Kansas," Diego said noting he had to come back to make sure Raul got into college. Down to his last dollar, Diego noticed the help wanted sign posted on the Newman coffee shop wall, inquired within and was handed a job as a waiter on the spot.

Nick Newman was still sleeping at the office and with his bitchy wife, was trying to figure out a way to tell the children he could no longer stomach being in the same room with their mother, but loved spending most of his time at the Newman outhouse with her anyway.

Pouring Nick a cup of his favorite coffee (Blue Mountain), Sharon said she didn't want to argue about how to tell the kids because he killed her baby.

Week of 01.02.02

Due to New Year's, this was another 3-day week in Genoa City.

Brock Reynolds returned to bond with his daughter but Mac Browning was busy giving her mother the cold shoulder. Amanda Hunnicutt was invited to the Chancellor Estate for dinner but sent into the night alone and on foot when things didn't go well.

Lauren Fenmore was anxious to flop on her back if it would satisfy detective Paul 'Clueless' Williams and get his mind off dizzy Izzy Brana. Izzy showed her appreciation when Michael Baldwin, thinking of marriage, gave her a baby gift.

High School student Raul Guittierez began having difficulty composing an essay when he learned his older brother, Diego, was leaving for Texas. Diego told Raul not to blow the chance to be first in their family to attend college.

His marriage proposal rejected by Jill Abbott, Sean Bridges said he was not interested in being her boy-toy.

Traci Connelly returned to ponder her daughter's future. It was decided that Colleen Carlton would stay in Genoa City, be watched by the Abbott maid and attend Walnut Grove Academy on a probationary basis. Brad Carlton was upset that he was the last to know.

Colleen slapped her uncle, Billy Abbott, when he stuck his nose into her dope smoking business.

Jack Abbott assured Phyllis that he would love her "now and forever" even after she turned down his request to have sex at the office.

Nikki Newman found out that Jack was the father of Diane Jenkins' baby, but was so busy playing divorce expect with Victor she didn't get around to telling what she knew. The problems were the Newman adult children in diapers. No matter how many times Victor and Nikki told Nick and Sharon Newman to move on, no progress was made and they worried the children might turn out to be like them.

Nick Newman started sleeping at office when Sharon wouldn't stop blaming him for the death of their baby. Nick considered moving in with his daddy as Nikki pleaded she wished they would just get back on track. Sister Victoria tried to butt in but Nick told her to buzz off and stop lecturing. Sharon threw a major bawling fit when Nick refused to understand how she feels.

The Winters clan was still malfunctioning. Malcolm Winters was thinking about disowning his brother and Alex Perez screamed when Neil Winters tried, literally, to reach out to her. The rejection sent Neil deeper into the bottle.
